The First Annual All Souls Procession / Day of the Dead Fine Art Photography Exhibition is under way right now !

Any image from past All Souls Procession or Day of the Dead parades, any image depicting the Living's relationship to the Dead, or paying homage to our ancestors, our departed loved ones, etc., will be accepted.

3 cash prizes and 3 honorable mentions will be awarded.

Terry Etherton of the prestigious Etherton Gallery will be the juror of this exciting event.

The selected images will be shown at the historic Fox Theatre, November 2-5, 2006

THE WORLD's LARGEST PINHOLE CAMERA AND PHOTOGRAPH:

IRVINE, Calif. - What is believed to be the world's largest photo was successfully created in a hangar that had been converted into a massive camera at the former El Toro Marine Corps base.

About 30 people showed up Wednesday to see the fuzzy, 28-by-108 foot black-and-white image taken by six photographers from the nonprofit Legacy Project. The photo, taken Saturday, shows the control towers, palm trees and a portable toilet.

The photo was created using the centuries-old principle of "camera obscura" after a gumball-size hole was opened in the hangar's wall, allowing a tiny beam of light to enter.

The image then appeared upside down and flipped left to right on a sheath of light-sensitive fabric the length of one-third of a football field and about three stories tall.

The cloth was exposed for 35 minutes. The photographers and 60 volunteers developed the image by moving the fabric into an enormous, 1-foot-deep tray.

"That was the magic: seeing this image come to life in the tray," photographer Jacques Garnier said. "That made all the work worthwhile."

The photo will be wrapped around a tube and eventually shipped to a temperature-controlled warehouse in Riverside. A few museums have expressed interest in displaying the photo, though no firm commitments have yet been made.

Guinness World Records has created two new categories for the project — world's largest camera and world's largest photograph. Certification of the records will take about three months.

The ambitious project was the latest by the group of shutterbugs who wanted to memorialize the Marine base before it was gone. The base was decommissioned in 1999 after more than a half-century of use.

Developers plan to build a 375-acre park, museum district, sports complex and thousands of homes on the base.

Body cap pinhole

Anyone here try making a pinhole camera out of an slr by punching a hole through a body cap? Any luck?--thoughts?--links?

Does anyone know if there is a list or something somewhere that gives the distance from body cap to film plane on various slrs or rangefinders?

Who posted Adriatic (the main photo for the tribe)? That's an excellent photo - I really like the, umm, bleak(?) nature of the background with the human form pressed on it. The model works really well with it.

I have some pinhole images posted that I would be intersted any feedback you may have, most were created with cameras made out of 4x5 film boxes. The cyanotype was created using a 16x20 pinhole camera created out of a portfolio box.

Any feedback would by appreciated.

i bought a wide angle lens for the canon G2, which comes with a nice lense cover that i think i will put a little pin hole in...see if 15 seconds is enough to take a pinhole shot...

i have a friend who has shot some particularly spectacular pinhole images ( http://www.garciastudio.com ) using his regular SLR body and a body cap with a hole -

so i am now inspired to try some myself. i have yet to figure out how to create a pinhole apparatus for my digital G2 thus far, but i am determined
